YOYP Conference

  • Do you want to take the lead in challenging discrimination?
  • Are you interested in advancing equality in Fife, Scotland and the UK?

Fife Centre for Equalities is supporting the Year of Young People 2018. We want Young people to have a greater say in decisions that advance equality in their lives. This year, we will provide a platform for young people to have their views heard and acted upon at local, national and UK levels at our Equality Conference.

Please consider that this event is by registration only as places are very limited and we will allocate them to young people from protected characteristics groups first. If you are interested, please register and tell us about your protected characteristics, we will then contact you to confirm your attendance and send you a programme.

If there are not enough spaces left (or you are interested but cannot attend at that time/date), tell us - we are always organising more events and there are many ways to get involved.

More information / F.A.Q

When / Where? The YOYP Equality Conference will take place on Thursday 08 November, from 18:00 to 21:00 in Adam Smith Theatre. Pizzas and soft drinks will be provided.

What are 'protected characteristics'? People are protected by the Equality Act from discrimination due to the characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, religion, sex, sexual orientation.

What about other groups facing discrimination? Fife Centre for Equalities also works with additional groups of people facing disadvantages such as carers, homeless people, households facing economic inequality (Fairer Fife), migrants, people in care or looked-after, refugees and asylum seekers and people who are undocumented, forced, smuggled or victims of trafficking.

What will happen on the day/or after? On the day, we will provide the platform for young people to vote on what matters the most for equality and what could be done about it. We will work with outreach officers from the Scottish and UK parliaments to follow up the conference with calls to action.
