Community and social enterprise

What is a social enterpise?
A social enterprise is a business with social objectives whose surpluses are reinvested for that purpose, either in the business itself or within the community rather than being driven to maximise returns for shareholders or owners.  Social enterprises tackle a wide range of social and environmental issues and operate in all parts of the economy.  By achieving public good, social enterprises have a valuable and distinct role to play in helping create a strong, sustainable and socially inclusive society.

Social Enterprises have a key role in the local economy and jobs market, particularly in communities that are disadvantaged. They can take a variety of legal forms and company structures, such as a Community Interest Company or a Company Limited by Guarantee; many are also registered charities.

Who can help me with my social enterpise?
We currently play a strategic role in supporting this sector with new and existing businesses who need specialist help in developing their business ideas and accessing finance.

BRAG operates a commercial contract on behalf of Fife Council to provide support across Fife to both emerging and established Social Enterprises across the whole of Fife. The work includes general business advice and support, signposting to funders, workshops and mentoring. In addition BRAG are working at raising the profile of the social enterprise sector in Fife and encouraging people and communities to take the first steps into starting a social enterprise business.

BRAG will give you all the support, encouragement and confidence you'll need to make positive change in your community.
