The Property Factors Register was established as a result of the implementation of the Property Factors (Scotland) Act 2011.
The Act aims to set minimum standards of practice for the residential property and land management industry and to provide increased protection for homeowners who use the services of a property factor. The Property Factors Register is compulsory for residential property and land managers whether they are private sector businesses, local authorities or housing associations operating in Scotland.
Further information about the Property Factors Register can be found on the Scottish Government website.
After 1 October 2012, the public will be able to use this site to search for registered property factors and/or property and land that is maintained by a registered property factor on behalf of homeowners.
How do property factors register?
The register will be open to receive applications from 30 July 2012. Applications are received through an online system. Information and guidance on the application process and how to use the online system is also available.
All property factors in Scotland are required to submit an application for registration by 1 October 2012. It will be a criminal offence to continue to operate as a property factor in Scotland after that date if you have not submitted an application.
